When you look at the CAP canal, it often looks calm, as though the water is barely moving. Looks can be deceiving! Water is moving roughly 2.5 miles per hour, a dangerous situation for a person or animal! If a leaf fell into the water at the start of the canal and was able to travel, uninterrupted through the system, it would take less than six days to travel from end to end.
