Families visiting Scottsdale’s McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park get to ride a steam-powered train and merry-go-round, grab some ice cream and see a model railroad with props dedicated to some of Arizona’s most beloved treasures – and that includes Central Arizona Project!

The model, installed by the Sun and Sand Model Railroad Club, includes a mini pumping plant similar to the Mark Wilmer Pumping Plant located near Lake Havasu. Mark Wilmer is one of 15 CAP pumping plants, lifting water uphill across 336 miles of Arizona desert.

 The Sun and Sand Model Railroad Club was founded in 1973 to “ignite and nurture a passion” for railroading and its history within the community at large. The group hosts demonstrations, hands-on interactive stations and special holiday events.

So, next time you’re at the park, make sure to check out CAP’s “mini” part of history in the display. The park is located in Scottsdale at 7301 E. Indian Bend Road and is open year-round, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Check out our part in the installation!
