It always sounds astounding when you hear it and when you say it, but it’s true:

Arizona is using less water today than in the 1950s despite a population growth of more than 500%.

How is that possible? Three words: Smart. Water. Management.

Here are a few highlights:

  • Arizona has some of the most progressive water management laws in the nation.
  • As a result of 40+ years of focused conservation programs, the number of grass lots in Phoenix declined from a high of 70-90% in the 1970s to less than 7% today.
  • Arizona has made extensive investments toward reuse with more than 95% of effluent produced going to a beneficial reuse.
