Central Arizona Project (CAP) is honored to have received a 2023 Government Experience Project Award from the Center for Digital Government (CDG) in the special district category for the redesign of CentralArizonaProject.com.

The first phase of the redesign was completed in Aug. 2021 with new content and improved navigation and has been followed by continuous enhancements.

CAP was one of six special districts across the country to receive the award.

According to the CDG press release, the awards “recognize the achievements of states, cities and counties that have raised the bar on the experience of government services to create a better engaged constituency and a more responsive government.”

The website includes several data integrations:

Finally, we created these “one-stop shop” pages:

  • The Colorado River Dashboard page includes the Colorado River water supply report, Basin snow accumulation above Lake Powell, unregulated inflow into Lake Powell, Arizona Lake Mead DCP contributions and conservation, and 24-month study results.
  • Our Stakeholders page was created especially for CAP water users.

CAP’s Communications department collaborated with departments across the organization to migrate the website to a WordPress platform and revamp and upgrade the content and organization based on user analytics, common language of website users and feedback from site visitors. The purpose of the project was to provide Central Arizona Project’s popularly elected Board of Directors, stakeholders and general public a customer journey with clear, updated, accurate and accessible information that supports agency goals.

This project has been part of CAP’s continuing effort to encourage open communication with all stakeholders and the public and share new and impactful information in a timely fashion.
