Millwright Mechanic Jeremy St Vincent uses a plasma cutter

CAP’s 39 check structures are critical components to the system. They are operated remotely and act as a metering device, controlling the flow of water into and out of a segment, or pool, of the canal. Each check structure contains two radial gates that operate independently by electric variable speed motors, a feature designed to provide system redundancy. Here, Millwright Mechanic Jeremy St Vincent uses a plasma cutter to remove a corroded section on a check 14 radial gate so it can be replaced.
