On Sept. 30, 1968, when President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Colorado River Basin Project Act, CAP’s authorizing legislation, he declared it “Carl Hayden Day” in honor of the Arizona senator who was the longest-serving member of Congress at the time. Senator Hayden spent decades tirelessly advocating for CAP as a critical infrastructure project necessary to protect Arizona’s water security and future economy. Arizona still celebrates Carl Hayden Day each September 30 – and will continue celebrating this day at CAP’s Water Education Center!
