Whether it’s combining resources, sharing expertise or finding strength in numbers, partnerships are powerful – a fact that is nothing new to CAP.
One of our most recent partnerships was with some of the smaller fire districts in our service area. As we replaced Stokes baskets* in our pumping plants, we donated the ones we were replacing to some of those districts.
First, we donated to Florence Fire and Medical and most recently to Tohono O’odham Fire Department, Avra Valley Fire and Three Points Fire.

This partnership – like so many we work toward — is a win-win. Here are some other successful partnerships:
- CAP and Arizona State University received the 2023 Arizona Forward Governor’s Award for Arizona’s Future for its partnership with NASA that studies the effects of climate change on the Colorado River.
- Partnerships with municipal, county, and tribal agencies are vital to the achieving the goal of getting the CAP Trail constructed.
- Partnering with Boy Scouts of America helped a group of scouts achieve their goal of becoming an Eagle Scout.
- Lower Basin States worked together to provide a reliable Colorado River water supply.
* A Stokes basket is a stretcher that can be disassembled and is frequently used in tight spaces or where there are physical obstacles.
