You might know that CAP delivers a critical water source from the Colorado River that serves more than 80 percent of the state’s population.
And, you might also know that this 336-mile system connects the state, beginning in western Arizona at Lake Havasu and extending to south of Tucson.
This “Beyond water” series is about lesser-known facts about CAP and how it’s connected to all of Arizona.
Part 2 is focused on education and outreach.
CAP believes it’s important to learn about central and southern Arizona’s Colorado River water supply.
As such, we offer several programs for the public.
Here’s a rundown.
K-12 educational programs
CAP has free water educational programs for kids from Kindergarten to 12th grade.
They are:
- H2O for Kids. This program is for grades K-5, consisting of three lessons, each for specific grades. Learn more.

CAP University
- A free, online-learning program, CAP University is a continued effort to increase awareness and knowledge of CAP and the Colorado River. Each year, the program offers three sessions: a general “CAP 101” and two “deep dives” into various topics.
Presentations

Know Your Water News
- And finally, this news site! Know Your Water News shares articles, infographics, fact sheets and videos to increase the public’s knowledge and understanding of important water-related issues.
That is the “skinny” on CAP’s educational and outreach efforts.
