CAP Healthiest Employers

CAP’s wellness program recently was recognized by The Phoenix Business Journal as a “Valley’s Healthiest Employer, 2021,” the third time the organization has been named to the list.

The comprehensive program focuses on improving employees’ individual health and wellness and helping control medical and health-related costs for both employees and the organization. This is accomplished through educational programs, wellness challenges, health screenings, yoga classes and more.

The past year proved to be particularly challenging given the workplace adjustments due to COVID-19. The workforce was more dispersed than normal, creating a challenging…and mostly virtual…environment, but perseverance paid off.

A variety of virtual offerings were offered, including guided meditation sessions, stress management workshops, virtual lunch and learns, and more. One of the popular programs implemented is one that tracks participants’ steps every day. Since its inception in May 2020, more than 150 participants have averaged nearly 3.5 miles daily, an amount that totals more than 164,000,000 steps and counting.

“CAP is proud of its health and wellness program as being part of a comprehensive and holistic approach for employee well-being that also includes safety and work/life balance,” says General Manager Ted Cooke. “Our comprehensive approach was challenged this year by COVID, but we were quickly able to adapt by shifting our wellness program to a virtual mode, with a number of fun and innovative ways to keep health a priority.”

The award application process included evaluation in six areas of worksite wellness, including culture & leadership commitment, foundational components, strategic planning, communication and marketing, programming and interventions and reporting and analytics. CAP’s wellness program’s top score was in culture & leadership.
