Board approves long-term storage credit purchase and agreement with the City of Peoria
The Central Arizona Water Conservation District Board of Directors (CAWCD) convened virtually today for its September 2020 meeting. CAWCD Board President Lisa Atkins chaired the meeting from the headquarters boardroom and all other board members participated via WebEx. The public was invited to watch the livestream and to provide public comment via the Board’s online “Blue Card.” All remaining board meetings in 2020 will be held virtually in accordance with CAP’s headquarters closure to keep employees safe and water flowing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Board took the following actions:
- Approved a 2020 Voluntary Supplemental Shortage Stabilization Program as an extension of the 2014 Voluntary Supplemental Shortage Stabilization Program
- Approved a long-term storage credit purchase and sale agreement between CAWCD and the City of Peoria
- Established a Statutory Firming Pool for excess water in 2021, should excess water become available
Approved Consent Agenda items included:
- Water Storage Agreement for the City of Glendale
- Design Services Contract for motor exciter replacement at Hassayampa Pumping Plant
- Construction Contract for operation and maintenance road repair at Pool 39
- Contract for CISCO licenses and maintenance
The Board also heard staff updates regarding:
- Colorado River conditions, including Intentionally Created Surplus (ICS) creation efforts
- Proposed System Conservation projects
- Drought Contingency Plan implementation
- Water operations
- Water quality outreach and technical engagement
The CAWCD Board of Directors is a popularly elected, 15-member board. Ten members are from Maricopa County, four from Pima County and one from Pinal. Members serve six-year, unpaid terms. The board typically meets publicly the first Thursday of each month to establish policy and set rates and taxes for CAP.
