Salt Gila Pumping Plant, the sixth plant in the CAP system, has 10 pumps that lift water 75 feet on its journey from Lake Havasu to Tucson. The overhaul of one of these 3000 horsepower pumps is a team effort. First, the highly skilled craftsmen based at the East Valley plant unwire the unit. Next, the millwright mechanics, also known as heavy overhaul mechanics or HOGS, will travel to the plant to disassemble the unit. It will then be transported so it can be serviced and repaired as needed. Critical work to ensure a reliable system.
