Board reconvenes remotely after summer break – will continue to meet virtually throughout 2020
The Central Arizona Water Conservation District Board of Directors (CAWCD) convened virtually on Thursday, Aug. 6 for its August 2020 meeting. CAWCD Board President Lisa Atkins chaired the meeting from the headquarters boardroom and all other board members participated via WebEx. The public was invited to watch the livestream and to provide public comment via the Board’s online “Blue Card.” All remaining board meetings in 2020 will be held virtually in accordance with CAP’s headquarters closure to keep employees safe and water flowing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Other than Consent Agenda items, the Board took one motion, voting on a position of “monitor” for federal legislation Senate Bill 4228 related to the “Water-Energy Technology Demonstration and Deployment Act.”
Approved Consent Agenda items included:
- Renewal of Water Storage Agreements for the Town of Gilbert
- Renewal of Water Storage Agreement for Flowing Wells Irrigation District
- Renewal of Water Storage Agreements for the Town of Oro Valley
- Water Storage Agreement for the United States of America Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation
- Contract for Bridge Crane and Office at Red Rock Pumping Plant
- Construction Contract for the CoveredVehicle Parking at Multiple Sites Project
- Purchase Contract for Microwave Communication System Replacement
The Board also heard staff updates and reports regarding:

The CAWCD Board of Directors is a popularly elected, 15-member board. Ten members are from Maricopa County, four from Pima County and one from Pinal. Members serve six-year, unpaid terms. The board typically meets publicly the first Thursday of each month to establish policy and set rates and taxes for CAP.
